Commentary

FarazNaa – We enjoined), this is in past tense from the word faraza, which means “to make someone liable to do some work”. This word has been used at several places. The word farzun has also some more meanings, and it is used for the meaning “to be old” too as the word faarizun (the old person), which has passed in Chapter two.

This Chapter has been started in such a way that from its beginning words, its importance falls in drops. It is commanded: This is the Chapter which has been revealed by Us. And there are such commandments mentioned in it, obedience of which is compulsory for the people. Its verses are very clear and understanding the meanings of these commandments is not too much difficult. By paying a little attention, its meanings become clear and the aim is manifested.

Before coming down of this Chapter, one such woeful incident had happened, by which there was a threat of happening strong confusion in the ease and comfort of collective life. Therefore, the splendor has been filled in its words. And the people have been prevented from bad habits in its very weighty word; so that the people may take heed in these words always. And they should escape from evil deeds. There is no more harmful thing than adultery for collective life and correct society. It ruins the modesty and it is the forerunner of the end of human dignity. The nation, which does not have modesty, is at a great distance from the dignity of humanity. It has been commanded that you should whip severely to every adulterer and adulteress with one hundred stripes.
